Vietnam bags eight golds at Southeast Asian weightlifting championships

VOV.VN - Vietnam topped the medal table at the Southeast Asian Weightlifting Championships, which wrapped up on June 16 in Singapore, with a haul of eight gold medals.

In the men’s 71kg category, rising star Tran Minh Tri outperformed five competitors to take gold, lifting 170kg in the snatch and 138kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 308kg.

Pham Thi Hong Thanh dominated the women’s 69kg division with a combined lift of 194kg-105kg in the snatch and 89kg in the clean and jerk, securing another gold for Vietnam.

Earlier in the tournament, Y Lien triumphed in the women’s 48kg class, posting a total of 158kg (73kg in the snatch and 85kg in the clean and jerk).

Nguyen Hoai Huong also added to the gold medal count in the women’s 53kg division with a total lift of 183kg-82kg in the snatch and 101kg in the clean and jerk.

The championships ran from June 11 to 16, drawing 745 competitors from across the region, including 317 women. Vietnam sent 12 athletes to the event, which served as a key warm-up for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, set to take place in Thailand this December.
