First two golds for Vietnam at SEA weightlifting championships

VOV.VN - Vietnamese weightlifters clinched their first two gold medals at the Southeast Asian Weightlifting Championships, held in Singapore on June 13.

In the women’s 48kg category, Y Lien delivered an impressive performance, lifting 73kg in the snatch and 85kg in the clean and jerk. Her combined total of 158kg earned her the top spot on the podium.

The other gold medal went to weightlifter Nguyen Hoai Huong in the women’s 53kg division. Huong lifted 82kg in the snatch and 101kg in the clean and jerk, finishing first with a total of 183kg.

The regional championships that is running through to June 16 has attracted 745 athletes, including 317 females.

Vietnam has sent 12 athletes to the tournament, which serves as a crucial warm-up ahead of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33), scheduled for December 9 to 20 in Thailand.
