Van Quyet claims outstanding athlete award in 2020
VOV.VN - Vietnamese forward Nguyen Van Quyet of Hanoi FC has won the title of Vietnam's Athlete of the Year for 2020 following a vote conducted by the Vietnam Sports Administration.
Van Quyet played a key role in leading Hanoi FC to victory in the National Cup, with the side from the capital also finishing runner-up in the V.League 1.
Last year also saw the forward selected as the best footballer of the V.League 1 whilst also winning the Golden Ball award.
The Hanoi FC captain claimed 534 points, 17 points higher than athlete Nguyen Van Duong in second place.
Most notably, Van Duong became one of five Vietnamese athletes to win a place at the Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Vietnamese to qualify for the world games in boxing after reaching the knock-out stage of the Asian championship in the 57kg category.
Third place went to track-and-field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh. She obtained a gold medal in the 10,000 metres, breaking a 17-year-old record at the national track-and-field championships in 2020.
Elsewhere, Truong Viet Hoang finished with 174 points and was voted coach of the year after helping Viettel FC win the V.League 1 for the first time.
Behind Hoang was Doan Kim Chi on 139 points after leading Ho Chi Minh City I FC to a win in the national women’s football league.
