U23 side tested for COVID-19 ahead of Dubai training camp
VOV.VN - Players of the U23 Vietnam side that defeated Thai opponents in the SEA Games 31 final match on May 22 evening will undergo COVID-19 tests shortly ahead of their training camp in Dubai, starting on May 24.
Accordingly, on May 23, 14 players of the U23 team, who competed at SEA Games 31, are scheduled to join other members at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in the lead up to the training camp.
Once the training camp concludes they will compete in the final round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Asian Championship, which is scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan from June 1 to June 19.
Korean veteran expert Park Hang-seo will no longer coach the U23 side after helping Vietnam defend their SEA Games championship title they won in the Philippines in 2019 altogether.
Instead, Korean coach Gong Oh-kyun will succeed Park Hang-seo to lead the team at the AFC U23 Asian Championship.
At the tournament, Vietnam have been drawn in the same group as two other Southeast Asian teams, including Thailand and Malaysia, along with the Republic of Korea, the 2020 champions.
The 2022 tournament will see the involvement of 16 teams which are divided into four groups, with eight teams that finish as group winners and runners-up advancing to the quarterfinals.
This is also the fourth time in a row that U23 Vietnam have made it to the final round. They last qualified for the final round in 2018.
