Vietnam defend SEA Games men's football championship title after beating Thailand

VOV.VN - Vietnam finished off Thailand with the precious goal by Nham Manh Dung, securing a 1-0 victory in the final at the National My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi on May 22 to bring home men’s football gold medal at the SEA Games arena.

In the first half, Thailand dominated ball possession and poured great pressure on Vietnam’s goal, however, Vietnamese players were able to neutralize most of the attacks of Thai rivals.

The first half ended in a goalless draw.

In the second half, Coach Park Hang Seo changed tactics by taking striker Nham Manh Dung to the field, thus enabling U23 Vietnam to reclaim control and successfully set the pace of the game.

With the tireless efforts, Nham Manh Dung put Vietnam ahead in the 82nd minute with a powerful header that correctly hit the net of Thailand.

The only goal secured a convincing victory for Park Hang-seo’s side and earned the Vietnamese men’s football team the SEA Games championship title.

Following the 12 encounters in the previous SEA Games events, Vietnam haven't beaten Thailand once, with eight losses and three draws. The victory they claimed this time is viewed as the great chance for Vietnam to change that.

This is the second time the Vietnamese men’s team have won the SEA Games championship title since beating Indonesia 3-0 in 2019.
