U15 football team convenes for AFF football event

The national U15 girls’ team convened in Hanoi on April 7 to prepare for the upcoming 2017 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U15 Girls Football Championship.

The 26-member team are being trained by head coach Nguyen Mai Lan and are practising at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre. The team will have around one month to sharpen their skills for the event.

During the training, the team will play five friendly matches with Hanoi 2 team, the national youth team, and Hanoi's U13 boys’ team.

Vietnam are in Group A alongside Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. Teams will compete in the round robin format, and the best two teams will enter the semi-finals.

Vietnam will play Thailand on May 7.

The tournament, which will be held in Vientiane, Laos, from May 5 to 21, will follow the official competition system of the AFF.

From this year, the AFF is holding many junior football events so that teams in the region have the opportunity to practise and improve their skills for junior tournaments of the Asian Football Confederation.
