Two more medals for Vietnam at Asian Weightlifting Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnamese weightlifter Nguyen Hoai Huong delivered a strong performance at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships in India on May 13 (local time), securing two silver medals and one bronze in the women’s 53kg category.
The result marks another impressive showing for Vietnam’s national weightlifting team at the continental competition.
Competing in Group A alongside 12 of the strongest athletes in her weight class, Hoai Huong had a difficult start in the snatch.
She failed her opening attempt at 85kg but successfully lifted the weight in her second attempt. She then improved to 87kg on her final lift, earning her a bronze medal in the snatch.
In the clean and jerk, the Vietnamese lifter performed consistently, successfully lifting 108kg in her best attempt after three tries. This result placed her second in the clean and jerk discipline, earning her a silver medal.
With a total lift of 195kg, Hoai Huong finished second overall in the women’s 53kg category, securing her second silver medal of the competition.
Chinese weightlifter Zhao Jinlan dominated the competition with three gold medals after lifting 95kg in the snatch, 121kg in the clean and jerk and a total of 216kg.
India’s Yadav finished third overall with a total of 194kg (88kg snatch and 106kg clean and jerk), bringing home the bronze medal.
Earlier, on the opening day of the tournament, Vietnamese weightlifter Lai Gia Thanh took three bronze medals in the men's 60kg discipline.
The 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships is running from May 11 to 17, featuring athletes from 28 countries and territories across the continent. Vietnam is competing at this year’s tournament with a five-member squad.
