A Tieu takes Vietnam’s final bronze at 2026 Junior World Weightlifting Championships

VOV.VN - A Tieu, Vietnam’s final lifter, secured the team’s last bronze in the men’s 65kg category on May 3 (local time) at the 2026 Junior World Weightlifting in Egypt.

Competing in Group A, which featured eight of the top lifters, A Tieu opened the snatch with a successful 128kg lift. He then cleared 131kg on his second attempt and 134kg on his third, finishing third in the snatch standings to take bronze.

In the clean and jerk, he lifted 155kg. His combined total of 289kg placed him fifth overall.

China’s Wang Liqian topped the category with 138kg in the snatch and 164kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 302kg. Teammate Wan Jinping finished second with 297kg.

The championships run through May 8 in Egypt. Vietnam fielded three lifters in the men’s 60kg, 65kg and women’s 53kg categories, all of whom have now completed their events.

In terms of total results, only K’Duong won a bronze medal, in the men’s 60kg category. Across individual lifts (snatch, clean and jerk) and totals, the team secured four bronze medals overall-  three by K’Duong and one by A Tieu.

Following the competition, the coaching staff will make adjustments to prepare the lifters for upcoming international tournaments.
