Relay race raises funds for workers affected by COVID-19
VOV.VN - A trans-Vietnam relay race called “Rise with Vietnam” got underway in Quang Ninh province on October 17, drawing the participation of 150 people to support employees affected by COVID-19.
The event, hosted by both the Saigon Beer - Alcohol Beverage Corporation (SABECO) and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, is being held with the aim of raising funds for Vietnamese workers struggling to overcome the negative impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In line with the competition's rules, runners will have to complete a route that stretches for 1,875 km. Known as the Heritage Relay, the event will see participants go from Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province to Ho Chi Minh City between October 17 and October 25, in addition to a 145 km run, known as the Future Relay, from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho on October 26.
Throughout the race, team members will take turns completing runs of two km, five km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km.
Upon arrival in each major city along the route, participants will have the chance to join in a number of interesting events.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Bennett Neo, SABECO general director, highlighted the importance of the relay race, adding that it is their responsibility to stand by and support those affected by the wide ranging impact of COVID-19 during this difficult time.
