Quang Liem knocked out of Charity Cup

VOV.VN - Local chess player Le Quang Liem was eliminated from the online rapid chess tournament the Charity Cup on March 25 after suffering a defeat at the hands of Jan-Krzysztof Duda of Poland.

The Polish opponent recorded a win over the Vietnamese player in the first set, despite Liem having the advantage of starting the game as white.

The Ho Chi Minh City native made every effort to be competitive and was able to draw with Duda in the second and third sets.

As a result of his lose he received a total of US$14,000 in prize money, including US$8,000 for his top position in the group stage and US$6,000 for his success in the quarter-finals.

Liem also won a place to compete in the upcoming grand series Champion Chess Tour which will take place between April 20 and April 28 and will feature eight leading players.

Furthermore, he is also scheduled to compete in the rapid and blitz categories in the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) slated for May 10 to May 21 in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
