Putaleng International Paragliding Competition kicks off in Lai Chau
VOV.VN -The first international cross-country paragliding competition to ever be held in Vietnam, the Putaleng XC Open, officially opened in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau on November 28.
Over 80 pilots from 12 countries and territories worldwide, including Vietnam, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia are competing in the competition. |
The route that the pilots must fly starts in Si Thau Ban village, a community tourist site belonging to the Dao ethnic group which is situated at over 1,400 metres above sea level, before heading to the Tam Duong district stadium. |
Standing at 3,049 metres, Putaleng in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range in Tam Duong district is the nation’s second highest peak following Fansipan, which stands at 3,143 metres. |
Upon addressing the opening ceremony, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Tran Tien Dung expressed his hope that the competition can help introduce the beautiful landscapes of Lai Chau to both the pilots and new international friends. This will therefore contribute to promoting the province’s tourism sector. |
The Putaleng XC Open is being organised by Hanoi's Vietwings Paragliding Club and has received recognition from both the World Air Sports Federation and the Vietnam Aviation Sports Association as an international ranking event. |
The competition is scheduled to last until December 1. |
The local authorities of Tam Duong district grant certificates to each of the participating pilots. |
All of those taking part in the Putaleng XC Open come together to take a group photo before heading towards the starting point. |
