Over 15,000 runners join Techcombank HCM City International Marathon
VOV.VN - More than 15,000 participants from 91 countries worldwide are taking part in the sixth Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon which kicked off on December 8.
The runners will compete in a journey spanning across five districts and Thu Duc City, with the route passing a total of 17 iconic landmarks along the way, with the event taking place with the theme of “Run for a Greater Viet Nam”.
This year the race will serve as a platform for the ‘Green on Every Journey’ initiative with the aim of minimisng plastic waste along the route whilst connecting communities to protect the environment together.
Athletes will be able to explore the modern and dynamic southern city, with its unique charms providing a memorable shared experience on different distances. This includes a full marathon of 42.195km, a half marathon of 21.1km, a 10km route, a five km route, and the Kids Run.
Furthermore, alongside domestic athletes the Techcombank HCM City International Marathon will also see a large number of international athletes competing in the race, including Kenyan Shadrack Kipkemboi Kebenei, who has a personal best of 2:08.45, and Kenyan Koros Johnstone Chesire, who won the second Techcombank Hanoi Marathon in September.
According to Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the event offers a golden opportunity to promote the image of the city, as well as encouraging the community to participate in sports whilst improving their health every day.
