Ha Long Bay International Heritage Marathon attracts 9,000 racers
VOV.VN - More than 9,000 athletes, including 1,000 from 42 countries and territories globally, took part in the Ha Long Bay International Heritage Marathon 2023 on November 19 in Ha Long city of Quang Ninh province.
The competition is part of activities to mark the 60th founding anniversary of Quang Ninh and the 30th founding anniversary of Ha Long City.
The athletes competed in the 5km, 10km, 21km and 32.195km races approved by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
They ran along the road with a range of scenic spots, connecting Ha Long City and Cam Pha City, then travelled through a unique tunnel heading for Cam Pha City.
The Ha Long Bay International Heritage Marathon is organized annually in November to promote the image of Vietnam in general and Ha Long City in particular that houses Ha Long Bay - a natural wonder that has been honored by UNESCO three times as the world natural heritage.
The race has been certified by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) and the International Association of Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), and sponsored by the Vietnam Athletics Federation.
Ha Long Bay International Heritage Marathon has also been voted by Runner’s World UK, a famous marathon magazine globally, as one of the races with the most unique and beautiful running route on the planet.
