VOV.VN - Naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son cast his ballot for the first time as a Vietnamese citizen on March 15.

Joining voters nationwide, the Vietnam national team forward took part in the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. Son voted at Polling Station No. 52 in Nam Dinh ward, Ninh Binh province.

Sharing his feelings about voting for the first time, Son said he felt happy and proud.

“I feel very happy and proud to vote for the first time as a Vietnamese citizen. This is something very special and meaningful for me and my family,” he said.

Since obtaining Vietnamese citizenship, Son has made important contributions to the national team. At the 2024 ASEAN Championship, he helped Vietnam win the title and finished the tournament as top scorer.

Head coach Kim Sang Sik has included Son in Vietnam’s squad preparing for matches during the March 2026 FIFA international window, including a key match against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Another naturalized player, Do Phi Long, also voted for the first time as a Vietnamese citizen. The Da Nang FC player said he was proud to participate  in the election as a Vietnamese citizen.
