Minh wins two titles at national chess tourney

Le Tuan Minh of Binh Duong won two titles at the National Chess Championships, which closed on May 6 in HCM City.

Minh won both blitz (eight points) and rapid (7.5 points) events after nine matches each.

On the women’s side, Pham Le Thao Nguyen from Can Tho took the rapid gold medal with eight points, while Luong Phuong Hanh of Hanoi topped the blitz category, earning 7.5 points after nine games.

Earlier, Tran Tuan Minh of Hanoi and Hoang Thi Bao Tram from HCM City won the men’s and women’s standard chess pools, respectively.

According to the organisers, this year saw a high quality tournament as it lured many national best masters. It also was said that this tournament would provide an opportunity for the national coaching board to select members for the national team for the coming tournaments this year.
