Minh advances in German Open
Nguyen Tien Minh qualified for the second round at the ongoing German Open badminton tournament.
The Vietnamese defeated Joachim Persson of Denmark 21-16, 21-19 in the men's singles event and will see host player Marc Zwiebler, seeded No 14 here.
In their six meets, Minh has won five and Zwiebler has walked away with the only victory in their last clash at the French Open in 2014.
Do Tuan Duc and Pham Nhu Thao claimed their berth in the main round of the mixed doubles event.
They came from behind beat Marvin Emil Seidel and Linde Efler of Germany 20-22, 21-12, 21-16 in the second qualification round match.
They will play Solgyu Choi and Eom Hye Won of South Korea, the No 6 pair.
In the men's doubles, Duc and Pham Hong Nam lost 16-21, 14-21 to Zvonimir Durkinjak and Zvonimir Hoelbling of Croatia.
