Tien Minh drops in world badminton rankings
(VOV) - It’s not the sort of new year’s present Nguyen Tien Minh would have wanted, but it certainly hasn’t come as a big surprise.
In the past year, the nation’s most prolific badminton champion ever, has descended down the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, having fallen by 20 positions to now stand at 40th.
Most recently, he competed unsuccessfully on December 19 at the quarter-finals of the Mexico Grand Prix. Earlier, on December 8, he crashed out of the K&D Graphics/Yonex Grand Prix in California.
In November, Minh succumbed to the onslaught of India’s Sameer Verma in the quarter final round at the 2015 Bahrain International Challenge.
Experts in the sport now say it’s make or break time for Minh in his quest for Olympic gold. He must, they say, secure victories and points over the next six months if he is to have any chance of making the dream a reality.
