Milestone for Vietnam as youth wrestling championships debut
VOV.VN - The 2025 U17 and U23 Asian Wrestling Championships kicked off on June 18 at The Grand Ho Tram in Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, marking a milestone in Vietnam’s sporting history as the country hosts a continental wrestling championship for the first time.

Co-organised by the Vietnam Sports Administration, the World and Asian Wrestling Federations, the Vietnam Wrestling Federation, and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the tournament has drawn more than 1,000 athletes from 24 countries and territories.
In his opening remarks, Mohamad Awamleh, President of the Asian Wrestling Federation, said the event plays an important role in developing wrestling in the region and provides valuable opportunities for young athletes to exchange and gain experience.
Tran Thi Thu Hien, deputy director of the provincial tourism department, noted that hosting international sports tournaments not only boosts the local economy but also helps promote Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Vietnam as attractive cultural and tourist destinations. She said the province is committed to improving infrastructure and expanding cooperation to welcome more international events in the future.
The tournament includes both Olympic and beach wrestling, held across three competition arenas built to international standards. The event runs through June 28.
