Marksmen fail to land additional Olympic spots
VOV.VN - Vietnamese shooters Ha Minh Thanh and Vu Tien Nam have failed to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics as they failed to finish among the top eight leading athletes at the 2024 ISSF World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Brazil.
In the 25m rapid fire pistol competition on April 19, Minh Thanh only finished 15th while his teammate Tien Nam was ranked 34th.
The 2024 ISSF World Olympic Qualification Tournament is the last chance for Vietnamese marksmen to earn additional tickets to Paris.
As a result, the Vietnamese shooting team only earned two slots to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
Trinh Thu Vinh officially won a place after achieving a high result at the 53rd ISSF World Shooting Championships qualifiers in Azerbaijan on August 17, 2023, while 21-year-old Le Thi Mong Tuyen earned her ticket following her excellent performance at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2024 which was held in Indonesia last January.
To date, a total of seven Vietnamese athletes have made it to the 2024 Paris Olympics that will take place from July 26 to August 11.
They include cyclists Nguyen Thi That and Nguyen Huy Hoang, badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh, weightlifters Vo Thi Kim Anh and Trinh Van Vinh, and marksmen Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen.
