Local gymnasts fail to achieve any Olympic spots

VOV.VN - Vietnamese gymnasts failed to win any places to compete at the upcoming Olympics during the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Senior Asian Championships held on May 16 in Uzbekistan.

Southeast Asian (SEA) Games champions Van Vi Luong, Dinh Phuong Thanh, and Nguyen Van Khanh Phong couldn’t earn any Olympic spots in the men's individual all-round event as they failed to finish among the Top 12 finalists.

Only two Olympic spots were on offer, going to the athlete in first position in the form of Carlos Yulo of the Philippines with 84,931 points, as well as the second-placed Karimi Milad of Kazakhstan with 84,632 points.

The 2024 Asian Gymnastics Championships represents the last chance for Vietnamese gymnasts to earn places to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

At the Tokyo Games back in 2021, veteran gymnasts Le Thanh Tung and Phuong Thanh took the official slots, with Tung going on to compete in the men's vault while Thanh took part in the all-round event.

So far, the country has secured a total of 10 official slots to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, including in badminton, shooting, swimming, cycling, weightlifting, boxing, canoeing, and rowing.
