Local boxer to face off against Thai rival in HCM City event
VOV.VN - Vietnamese boxer Tran Van Thao is scheduled to take on Phayom Boonrueang of Thailand on December 19 at a professional tournament held at Trigger Boxing Club in Ho Chi Minh City.
The local fighter will go into the fight as the underdog, with the Thai fighter being an undefeated champion who has a record of nine unbeaten bouts.
Born in 1992, Van Thao made a name for himself internationally after defeating Indonesian George Lumoly to become the first Vietnamese boxer to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia title in November, 2017.
However, he was unable to defend his WBC belt after an injury sustained in a traffic accident, causing the organisers to strip the title from him.
