Liem finishes second at Chessable Masters
VOV.VN - Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem finished second after being defeated by world No. 9 Wesley So of the United States in the final round of the Chessable Masters tournament which was held on August 8.
In the opening match of three rapid chess games, Liem lost out to So, recording a 2.5-0.5 defeat.
Despite this initial set back, the second match of four rapid chess games saw the talented Vietnamese player turn the tables on So in the first game, before being held to a draw in the second game to record a 1.5-0.5 win over the US player. In the third game, So was able to overcome Liem and eventually tied with the Vietnamese player in the fourth game.
The second match concluded in a draw with a final score of 2-2.
Overall, Liem lost out to the US opponent with the score of 1.5-0.5 to ultimately finish second in the tournament.
Following this result, the Vietnamese Grandmaster won prize money of US$15,000, while the US player received US$30,000.
The Chessable Masters represents the eighth event of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, a 10-month long series of 10 chess tournaments initiated by chess king Magnus Carlsen of Norway and played online through Chess24.com.
