Kim Sang-sik calls up new players ahead of crucial clash with Malaysia
VOV.VN - Head coach Kim Sang-sik has called up defenders Dang Van Toi of Hai Phong FC and Pham Ly Duc of Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC to the Vietnam national squad to replace two key injuring players ahead of their vital 2027 Asian Cup qualifier against Malaysia.

The adjustments were made after Bui Hoang Viet Anh and Nguyen Thanh Binh were ruled out due to injuries and returned to their clubs for treatment.
In preparation for the high-stakes encounter, the national team keep training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre. As part of the buildup, they will play a closed-door practice match against the Vietnam U22 team to assess the squad's readiness before departing for Malaysia on June 6.
Several key players, such as Nguyen Filip, Nguyen Quang Hai, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, and Nguyen Tien Linh, were notably absent from the most recent training session. These players were engaged in a rescheduled V.League 1 round 23 match between Binh Duong and Ha Noi Police. They are expected to rejoin the national team on May 31, especially as Ha Noi Police's stars will not be fielded in the June 3 match against Binh Dinh.
Prior to the training session, VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu and General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu visited the team to offer words of encouragement. They stressed the importance of the upcoming match, noting the challenge of playing away against a strong Malaysian squad bolstered by several quality naturalised players.
Vietnam opened their Asian Cup qualifying campaign on a high note with a commanding win over Laos. To keep their hopes of advancing to the final round alive, coach Kim and his players will need to secure all three points when they face Malaysia on June 10.
