HCM City Women’s FC to face DPRK’s Naegohyang FC in Laos
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC will take on DPRK side Naegohyang FC in the quarter-finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Champions League, with the match set to be played in Laos.
Naegohyang FC have chosen Vientiane as the venue instead of hosting the fixture in Pyongyang. According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on March 28.
The matchup is expected to be a tough test for head coach Doan Thi Kim Chi and her squad. Although Naegohyang FC do not field foreign players, they are widely regarded as one of the strongest women’s clubs in the DPRK. The country’s women’s national team reached the quarter-finals of the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The quarter-final stage of the AFC Women’s Asian Champions League will be played on March 28-29 in a single-elimination format. The four winners will advance to the final stage, which will be held at a centralized venue and feature the semi-finals and final from May 20 to 23.
In addition to defending champions Wuhan Jiangda FC of China and runners-up Melbourne City FC of Australia, this year’s quarter-final field includes three first-time participants: Suwon FC of the Republic of Korea, Stallion Laguna FC of the Philippines, and Naegohyang FC of the DPRK. The remaining teams are Tokyo Verdy Beleza FC of Japan and PFC Nasaf FC of Uzbekistan.
