HCM City Women fall 0-2 to Wuhan Jiangda in AFC Champions League semi-final

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC suffered a 0-2 defeat to hosts Wuhan Jiangda FC in the semi-finals of the 2024-2025 AFC Women’s Champions League, held on May 21 in China.

Wuhan Jiangda, playing on home turf, dominated from the outset and posed constant challenges for the Vietnamese side. In the 35th minute, Engesha broke the deadlock with a sharp finish past Chuong Thi Kieu, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Vietnamese midfielder Thuy Trang came off the bench in the second half and, alongside K’Thua, pushed hard to turn the tide. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t breach the solid Chinese defence.

A critical mistake by Vietnamese goalkeeper Thu Em in the 55th minute allowed Song Duan to double Wuhan’s lead, sealing the 2-0 victory.

The result ends HCM City Women’s remarkable run in their first-ever appearance at the AFC Women’s Champions League. Reaching the semi-finals stands as a historic achievement for Vietnamese women’s club football, highlighting their potential on the continental stage.

The AFC Women’s Champions League, launched in 2024, is the premier club tournament for women’s football in Asia, bringing together elite teams from across the region.
