Four local cueists qualify for Ankara World Cup 3-Cushion 2024 knockout stage
VOV.VN - Vietnamese cueists have booked four places in the knockout rounds of the ongoing Ankara World Cup 3-Cushion 2024 in Turkey following their impressive wins recorded in the final matches of the Round of 32.
According to the results, in Group E local billiards players Bao Phuong Vinh and Tran Thanh Luc successfully beat their rivals Gokhan Salman of Turkey and Eddy Merckx of Belgium, respectively, to progress to the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, in Group B pair Tran Quyet Chien and Chiem Hong Thai also showed their talents as they enjoyed victories over Jeremy Bury of France and Omer Karakurt of the host country to earn places in the next round.
The matches in the Round of 16 are scheduled to take place today with Tran Quyet Chien involved in a Vietnamese derby with Tran Thanh Luc, whilst Bao Phuong Vinh will take on Tolgahan Kiraz of Turkey, and Chiem Hong Thai is set to face off against Sameh Sidhom of Egypt.
In 2023, Vietnamese cueist Bao Phuong Vinh outplayed his teammate Tran Quyet Chien in the final of the Ankara World Championship 3-Cushion 2023 to win the title for the first time in history.
