Embassy welcomes national team to Rio 2016

VOV.VN -Ambassador to Brazil Nguyen Van Kien along with embassy staff have extended a warm welcome to the Vietnam contingent at the Olympic village in Rio de Janeiro.

The contingent, headed by Tran Duc Phan, deputy head of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, is comprised of 50 members including 23 athletes and 27 coaches, experts, officials, and doctors. 

Four athletes are competing in weightlifting events, four in fencing, two in swimming, two in shooting, two in badminton, two in gymnastics, two in athletics, two in rowing, two in wrestling and one in Judo. 

Ambassador Kien and staff wished the Vietnam Olympic contingent the very best of luck in their quest for medals at the 2016 Rio Games, the world’s premiere sporting event.

The Rio 2016 Olympics officially open at 6:00 am on August 6 (local time) and run through August 22. Roughly 10,500 athletes from 206 nations will compete for medals in 306 events in 28 sports at the games.
