Athletics brings second gold for Vietnam at Asian Beach Games 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s athletics team secured their second gold medal at the 2026 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, on April 25, as Pham Van Nghia delivered a winning performance in the men’s long jump.
Competing against 12 athletes from Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka, Oman and hosts China, Nghia claimed the title with a best jump of 7.44m, achieved on his second attempt. The result was enough to edge China’s Tao Yege by just three centimetres, while Sri Lanka’s Miranda Jayathra Sampath took bronze with 7.37m.
The 2001-born athlete from An Giang produced a consistent series, recording five valid jumps in six attempts. Although short of his personal best of 7.77m set at the 2025 Thailand Open, his performance on sand secured a continental breakthrough in his first Asian-level appearance.
Earlier on April 24, Vietnam opened their athletics gold tally at the Games through Ha Thi Thuy Hang, who won the women’s long jump with a 6.16m effort.
