ASIAD 19 men’s football: Vietnam lose to Saudi Arabia

VOV.VN - Despite efforts Vietnam lost 1-3 to Saudi Arabia in their last Group B match of the ongoing 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in Hangzhou, China, on September 24, early saying goodbye to the continental sport arena.

Taking on Asian powerhouses, Vietnam expected to get a draw to enter the knockout stage.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan’s players defended their danger box well in the first half, but they conceded a goal several minutes before the break following Al Yami’s header.

Similarly in the second half, Vietnamese players continued to perform well and they kept the score for most of the time before Marran and Zakaria got two goals for Saudi Arabia in the last two minutes of the match.

Vietnam earned a consolation goal in the extra time following Marran’s own goal.

The 1-3 loss sent Vietnam to third place of Group B, and they could not enter the knockout stage as other third placed opponents in other groups have advantages on goal aggregates. Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand and Qatar progressed to the next round.
