Vietnam face Indonesia as hosts chase historic Asian futsal breakthrough
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s national futsal team will take on Indonesia in the quarter-finals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, with the hosts aiming to reach the semi-finals for the first time in their history.
Finishing second in Group B, Vietnam national futsal team will face Group A winners Indon sia national futsal team in a tie widely viewed as evenly matched, with the two sides separated by a narrow gap in the FIFA futsal rankings.
Vietnam are currently ranked 20th in the world, four places above Indonesia at 24th. Indonesia are seeking a quarter-final win that would see them advance to the Asian Championship semi-finals for the first time.
Indonesia head coach Hector Souto said his side are motivated by the opportunity to make history.
“Our next objective is to reach the semi-finals for the first time. That would be a historic achievement for us,” Souto said. “We are playing at home, but there is no pressure. We have never reached the semi-finals before, so we have nothing to lose.”
“If any team is under pressure, it is Vietnam,” he added. “They have reached the semi-finals several times, and some of their players know what that means.”
At the 2025 SEA Games, Indonesia won the gold medal but suffered a 0-1 defeat to Vietnam in their head-to-head meeting. Souto said that result is providing added motivation ahead of the quarter-final.
The match between Vietnam and Indonesia will kick off at 19:00 on February 3.
