Vietnam bow out in Asian Futsal Cup 2026 quarter-finals after loss to Indonesia
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s futsal team lost 3-2 to hosts Indonesia in the quarter-finals of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 on February 3, bringing their campaign to an early end.
Despite a committed display and a series of clear chances, the side coached by Diego Giustozzi were unable to overturn the scoreline against an Indonesia team that proved more clinical at key moments.
Vietnam started on the front foot, pressing high and moving the ball quickly in search of an early opener. Ngoc Anh, Minh Quang and Doan Phat all tested the Indonesian defence in the opening minutes, but a well-organised back line and a series of saves from goalkeeper Habiebie kept the hosts level.
While Vietnam were pushing forward, Indonesia struck first. In the fourth minute, a shot from Bryan Ick deflected off Gia Hung and wrong-footed goalkeeper Van Tu, giving the hosts the lead.
Vietnam continued to apply pressure after conceding. Da Hai, Gia Hung and Thai Huy tried their luck from distance, but Habiebie remained firm. In the 11th minute, a loss of possession by Da Hai allowed Indonesia to break quickly, with Ardiansyah Nur finishing clinically to make it 2-0.
The first half ended with Indonesia holding a two-goal advantage despite Vietnam creating several dangerous chances.
After the break, Vietnam raised the tempo. Their persistence paid off in the 25th minute when Da Hai combined sharply with teammates before firing home to reduce the deficit to 2-1. The response from Indonesia was immediate. A minute later, a defensive lapse allowed the hosts to work the ball neatly, and Reza Gunawan finished with ease to restore a two-goal cushion.
With time running out, Vietnam switched to power play in the closing minutes. The move paid off in the 36th minute as Da Hai completed his brace, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Vietnam then pushed forward in search of an equaliser, with Gia Hung, Doan Phat and Manh Dung all going close, but the equaliser never came.
The match ended 3-2 in favour of Indonesia, bringing Vietnam’s campaign to a close. Despite the defeat, Vietnam’s performance showed resilience and promise for the future.
