23-player squad unveiled for 2025 ASEAN Women’s Championship

VOV.VN - Chief coach Mai Duc Chung has announced Vietnam’s 23-player roster for the 2025 ASEAN Women’s Championship to be held in Vietnam this August.

Familiar names such as Huynh Nhu, Hai Yen, Bich Thuy, Tuyet Dung, Chuong Thi Kieu, and Hoang Thi Loan remain key pillars of the squad. A notable highlight is the return of midfielder Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha, who makes her comeback after a spell on the sidelines due to injury. Her presence in the team is expected to significantly bolster the midfield strength.

Along with an experienced core, head coach Mai Duc Chung and the coaching board have continued to invest in the team’s future by calling up promising young players, including Nguyen Thi Truc Huong and Tran Thi Thu Xuan. The inclusion of these emerging talents is anticipated to inject new energy and creativity into the squad’s playing style.

Vietnam have been drawn in Group A alongside regional rivals such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Cambodia. All of the fixtures in Group A will be held at the Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong from August 6 to 12.

Vietnam are scheduled to kick off their campaign against Cambodia on August 6, followed by a clash with Indonesia on August 9. The group stage will conclude with a highly anticipated encounter between Vietnam and Thailand on August 12 to decide the group’s top position.

Historically, Vietnam have reached the finals of the ASEAN Women’s Championship six times, securing the title in 2006, 2012, and 2019.

Thailand, the most successful team in the tournament’s history, have claimed four titles, while the current champions, the Philippines, triumphed in the previous edition with the help of a naturalised player strategy.
