Yen Bai: 16 people killed, missing in floods
Torrential rains brought by a tropical low pressure system on October 10 and 11 triggered floods in the northern province of Yen Bai, which caused 16 people dead and missing as of 13:00 pm on October 11.
Tram Tau district reported three deaths and three injured persons while five others are missing.
In Van Chan district, four people in a family went missing.
In Nghia Lo township, Thia Bridge collapsed at 12:15 pm in severe floods, making five people fall into the stream and go missing, including an on-duty Vietnam News Agency correspondent.
The province has sent more than 100 military soldiers and health workers to the site for search and rescue while Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Do Duc Duy asked for an increase in forces to guard at high-risk locations, such as Ao Luong and a bridge at the Van Chan Hydropower plant.
Meanwhile, landslides have shut down many roads at Nghia Lo and Van Chan; dozens of landslides were reported along provincial road No. 174 from Nghia Lo to Tram Tau, blocking transport.
