Wartime bomb safely destroyed in Da Nang after discovery by residents
VOV.VN - Authorities in Da Nang city on January 9 safely destroyed an unexploded wartime bomb weighing more than 200 kilograms after it was discovered by local residents following recent flooding.
The bomb, identified as an MK-82 aerial bomb, was found in a stream area in R’cung village, A Vuong commune, according to local officials.
Briu Quan, chairman of the A Vuong commune People’s Committee, said residents alerted authorities after spotting a suspicious object exposed by floodwaters. Upon receiving the report, local military units and relevant forces quickly secured the site, established a safety perimeter and posted warning signs to protect nearby communities.
Due to the bomb’s location in difficult terrain and the high risks involved in transportation, authorities decided to destroy the device on site using a controlled detonation, following strict technical and safety procedures, Quan said.
The operation was carried out without incident and caused no injuries or property damage. After the detonation, forces inspected and cleared the area before handing it back to local authorities for continued management.
Unexploded ordnance from past conflicts remains a persistent hazard in parts of Vietnam, particularly in mountainous and flood-prone areas where buried explosives can resurface after heavy rain.
