Dak Lak safely detonates 334kg unexploded bomb left over from war
VOV.VN - The Military Command of Dak Lak province said on January 2 that it has successfully handled and detonated a 334kg bomb left over from the war, ensuring the safety of local residents.
The ordnance was discovered earlier by a local fisherman, Nay Y Luy, 40, from Buon Cham, Ea Hiao commune, while fishing in the Ea Hiao stream. The bomb was partially exposed and appeared to be live. Luy immediately reported the finding to local authorities.
Upon receiving the report, the Ea Hiao Commune Military Command promptly arrived at the scene to secure the area, erect warning signs, organise guards, and inform residents to stay away from the dangerous zone.
Following an assessment by the local engineering unit, the bomb was identified as US-made, measuring approximately 1.2 metres in length and weighing 334kg. The detonator and explosive charge inside were still intact, posing a significant risk.
Relevant units subsequently relocated the bomb to a safe location far from residential areas and carried out a controlled detonation in accordance with technical procedures, ensuring absolute safety for both personnel on duty and the public.
