Vietnamese rescue workers complete mission in earthquake hit Myanmar
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese rescue team on April 6 concluded its search and rescue mission in Myanmar that was shaken by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake more than a week ago and began reviewing operations before returning to Hanoi.

The Vietnamese delegation held two meetings with the leadership of Myanmar’s Rescue and Relief Department, chaired by Minister of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement Soe Win. At the meetings, Win expressed his deep gratitude to Vietnam for its spirit of support, cooperation, and noble international solidarity in the search and rescue efforts following the earthquake.
The Myanmar government held a ceremony on April 6 to honour the rescue teams from ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore.
Addressing the event, Minister Win expressed his deep gratitude to the international search and rescue teams for their swift response and support following the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.
He held that the presence of international search and rescue teams in Myanmar is a testament to solidarity, compassion, and humanitarian spirit, which helps strengthen bonds among nations during challenging times.
A 106-member Vietnamese rescue delegation from the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security arrived in Myanmar on March 30 to assist with earthquake relief efforts. So far, they have discovered and recovered 28 bodies from rubble and rescued one survivor.
General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defence, earlier sent a letter to the officers and professional soldiers involved in the earthquake recovery efforts in Myanmar.
In his letter, General Giang expressed his deep appreciation, noting that the delegation’s members had overcome great difficulties to cooperate in locating and retrieving victims from collapsed structures, and handing them over to the local authorities.
He emphasised that this mission showcased the noble spirit of international solidarity, the fine traditions of the Vietnamese people, and the admirable qualities of the soldiers of Uncle Ho (President Ho Chi Minh).
Notably, during the rescue mission, Vietnamese rescue workers were highly praised by both the Myanmar authorities and the international rescue forces present in the operation.
