Nearly 3 tons of relief supplies delivered to Myanmar following earthquake

VOV.VN - On the morning of April 1, a delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security presented nearly three tons of medicine and medical equipment to Myanmar authorities to aid those affected by the recent devastating earthquake.

Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, head of the ministry’s delegation, presented the supplies to Sa Weli Frag, head of the Disaster Management Department under Myanmar’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement.

The relief items included antibiotics, digestive medicine, cold and flu remedies, and essential medical equipment such as blood pressure monitors, blood glucose meters, SpO2 meters, stretchers, bandages, antiseptics, and mosquito repellent sprayers, along with insecticide chemicals for disease prevention.

Expressing gratitude for Vietnam’s support, Sa Weli Frag said the donated medicine and equipment would be promptly delivered to Myanmar’s Ministry of Health for distribution to remote areas facing severe shortages.

Earlier, on March 31, while conducting search and rescue operations in Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, the Vietnamese delegation also provided medicine and essential supplies to local authorities. Zabuthiri Township is the first location where Vietnam’s rescue team carried out its international mission in Myanmar.

Furthermore, Vietnam’s rescue team recovered the first victim’s body, 10-year-old Mg Khant Thuta Nygan, found on the first floor of a collapsed four-story building spanning 200 square meters with 24 bedrooms. The team had to use specialized saws to retrieve the victim’s body from the rubble before handing it over to local authorities and the family. They then continued using search dogs to locate another adult trapped inside the building.

Vietnam’s rescue team arrived in the earthquake-affected area at noon on March 31 and was divided into two task forces. One group prioritized unloading essential equipment, including multi-functional cutters for steel and concrete, hydraulic drills, search devices, lighting systems, and generators. Meanwhile, the other group remained at the base to organize supplies and manage logistics for the entire delegation. By around 3:15 p.m the same day, the logistics and equipment vehicles had reached the base and were swiftly unloaded to prepare for further rescue efforts.
