On February 9, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (ULAW) confirmed that the Embassy of France in Vietnam had announced the conferral of the rank of Chevalier under the Order of Academic Palms, pursuant to a decree issued by the Prime Minister of France, on Professor Dai.

Established in 1808 by Napoleon I, the Order of Academic Palms is one of France’s oldest non-military honours, originally created to recognise distinguished members of the French academic community.

The honour is now also awarded to foreign nationals who have made meaningful contributions to the promotion of French culture and international academic cooperation.

According to the announcement, the French Embassy will hold a formal ceremony to present the insignia to Professor Dai at a later date.

Born in 1974 in northern Bac Ninh province, Professor Dai obtained his bachelor’s degree in law in 1999, followed by a master’s degree in 2000 and a doctorate in 2004, all from Aix-Marseille III University. After a period of study, research and teaching in France, he returned to Vietnam in 2007 and has since worked at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.

He was recognised as an associate professor in 2011 and promoted to full professor in 2021 by Vietnam’s State Council for Professorship.
