Vietnamese and Singaporean PM meets with VNU students

VOV.VN -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong were joined by their wives on August 29 to hold a conversation with outstanding students from the Vietnam National University - Hanoi (VNU) on various issues.

The students raised a range of subjects regarding education, science-technology, and innovation policies of Singapore, the digital economy-green economy partnership that exists between the two countries, as well as policies aimed at promoting ties among universities of both Singapore and Vietnam. Indeed, there was a specific focus on areas of research, innovation, and artificial intelligence.

Those participating expressed hope at the prospect of listening to the success story of PM Lee and his experience, as well as the leaders’ expectations on the youth.

PM Lee said that the Singaporean Government has a fund specifically for scientific research and innovation, while mobilizing private resources for the area.

Singapore always keeps its door wide open for citizens and businesses from other countries, including Vietnam, to come and launch their startups, he said.

Briefing participants on Singaporean efforts to achieve net-zero emission by 2050 like Vietnam, he expressed his hope that VNU students and youngsters from the nation will join hands for a better world.

With regard to the Vietnam - Singapore Digital Economy - Green Economy Partnership, the Singaporean PM said that after 50 years of bilateral diplomatic relations and a decade of a strategic partnership, both sides enjoy a growing relationship.

The green economy, digital economy, circular economy, and sharing economy development is a global issue and trend, he stated, noting that the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the setting of the bilateral Digital Economy - Green Economy Partnership in early 2023 during PM Chinh’s visit to Singapore.

Within the mechanism, the two sides will offer mutual support in technology infrastructure development, database construction, management experience, human resource training, and information network security. This is along with safety protection, advice on creating a digital government, in addition to digital citizen and digital society development, said PM Long.

In terms of the green economy, both nations will co-operate, support, and share information with each other in technology, human resources, governance, and institution building to serve the green transition, especially the development of wind and solar power, he underlined.

Discussing the future of the youth, PM Chinh underlined that the country has never been in such a good position as today thanks to the sacrifices made by older generations. A task of the current and future generations is to inherit and promote the country’s various achievements, building a strong and prosperous nation with blissful and wealthy people, he  emphasised.

The Vietnamese Government leader stressed the necessity for the youth to develop themselves and show an increased sense of responsibility to the Fatherland and the people, while uniting to build a world of peace, friendship, and development, including enhancing the Vietnam-Singapore ties.

At the meeting, both leaders witnessed the signing of a co-operation agreement between VNU-Hanoi, VNU-Ho Chi Minh City, and Nanyang Technological University (TNU) of Singapore on the exchange of officials, lecturers, and students, as well as scientific research.
