Vietnam wins multiple awards at International Mathematics and Science Olympiad
VOV.VN - Vietnamese students have won numerous medals at the 22nd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO), held in Malaysia from October 5 to 9.

The Vietnamese delegation included 24 sixth-grade students, equally divided between the Mathematics and Science teams. In Mathematics, Vietnam earned three gold medals (Chung Minh Tien-Archimedes Secondary School, Nguyen Nhat Minh – Newton Secondary School, and Nguyen Quang Vinh – Pascal Secondary School), along with seven silver and two bronze medals. In Science, the team secured two golds (Truong Duc Minh Khoi – Delta Global School and Vu Duc Huy- Newton Secondary School), plus eight silver and two bronze medals.
This year’s IMSO gathered 400 contestants from 23 countries and territories, hosted by Albukhary International University in Kedah, Malaysia.
The Mathematics exam covered five main areas, while the Science test spanned 16 topics. English was the official language of the competition. IMSO is an annual contest for students under 13 years old, aiming to nurture intellectual abilities and inspire interest in STEM subjects.
The Olympiad was initiated by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education in 2003 under the name AMSO (ASEAN Mathematics and Science Olympiad), with Vietnam joining in 2014.
At the 21st IMSO held in Wenzhou, China, in 2023, Vietnam ranked second after Singapore, with all team members winning medals, including nine golds. The 2026 IMSO is set to take place in Indonesia.
