Vietnam wins gold at 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics
VOV.VN - Vietnamese students have bagged 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2025 held in Bolivia.

The only gold medal was secured by Le Kien Thanh, a student from Le Quy Don high School for the Gifted in Gia Lai province.
“We are extremely proud of him. The school will organise a ceremony to honour and reward him upon his return,” said Huynh Le Minh, principal of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, upon receiving the news.
Other medals went to high Schools for the Gifted in Hanoi city, and Lam Dong and Quang Ninh provinces.
IOI 2025 was held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3, attracting participants from more than 90 countries and territories. Contestants competed in two intense five-hour exam days, tackling complex algorithmic problems that demanded deep computational thinking and exceptional programming skills.
Known within Vietnam’s informatics community, Thanh has made his mark since Grade 10, when he won first prize in the provincial informatics competition (for Grade 12 students) and second prize in the national contest in 2023. That same year, he was crowned champion at the Le Quy Don Online Judge Cup in Da Nang and claimed first prize in Group C1 at the National Youth Informatics Contest.
Earlier this year, Thanh also won a silver medal at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) 2025, hosted by Uzbekistan from May 17 to 18.
With a stellar list of achievements, Le Kien Thanh has received multiple Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training and the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province now merged with Gia Lai. He has also been awarded the Creative Youth Badge by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
