Strong medal finish puts Vietnam 9th at International Mathematical Olympiad

VOV.VN - All six students on the Vietnamese national team have won medals at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in 2025, including two golds, three silvers, and one bronze.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) on July 19 officially announced the results of the Vietnamese team at this year’s IMO, held in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

With a total score of 188 points, Vietnam ranked ninth among 113 participating countries and territories. The top eight positions went to China (1st), the United States (2nd), the Republic of Korea  (3rd), Poland and Japan (tied for 4th), Israel (6th), India (7th), and Singapore (8th).

Compared to last year’s results in 2024, the Vietnamese team’s performance in 2025 marks a clear improvement.

The 66th IMO was held from July 10 to 20 in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, with over 639 contestants representing 113 teams from countries and territories worldwide. This is the second time Australia has hosted the IMO, following its first time in 1988.

The total medal tally at IMO 2025 includes 72 gold medals, 104 silver medals, and 145 bronze medals.

The closing and awards ceremony for the 66th IMO will take place at 4:00 p.m. local time on July 19 in Australia.
