Vietnam stays clear of COVID-19 infections in community over 23 days

VOV.VN - The country confirmed no new COVID-19 cases on September 25, marking the 23rd straight day without local transmissions since the latest coronavirus outbreak hit central Da Nang city on July 25, according to the Ministry of Health.

The total number of COVID-19 infections stays unchanged at 1,069, of which 691 are locally transmitted cases, and 377 are imported cases which were placed into isolation immediately upon arrival.

On September 25, eight further patients were released from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease, including six people treated at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Hanoi’s Dong Anh district, one at the Quang Nam Central General Hospital and another at the Tuberculosis and Lung Hospital in central Quang Tri province.

With the newly-recovered patients, the overall number of recoveries in the nation rose to 999, while there have been 35 deaths related to COVID-19 so far, with most of them being elderly people suffering serious underlying health problems.

More than 21,840 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or entered Vietnam from pandemic-hit regions are still in quarantine across the country.

Among the active cases in treatment, four have tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 once, 14 twice and 12 thrice.

Indeed, according to health experts, Vietnam is facing four infection risk sources: people entering the country illegally, those who enter Vietnam legally but do not  comply with quarantine regulations seriously, the source circulating in the community, and imported commodities which are made in and transported though disease-hit nations.
