Vietnam safe from COVID-19 in community over 22 consecutive days
VOV.VN - Vietnam has registered no new locally transmitted coronavirus cases during the past 24 days after recording an imported case from the US on September 23, according to the Ministry of Health.
September 24 also marked the 22th consecutive day no community cases have been detected in the country, the ministry said in its 18.00hrs update.
Vietnam has so far confirmed 1,069 COVID-19 cases, including 691 cases detected in the community. As many as 991 patients have fully recovered from the disease, making up 92.7% of the total.
The death toll caused by the disease remains at 35. Most of the fatalities suffer from severe health issues such as chronic renal failure, end-stage blood cancer, acute respiratory failure, hypertension, diabetes (type 2), pneumonia and multi-organ failure.
Currently, 43 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at health facilities. They are all in stable health condition, with 25 patients having tested negative for the virus.
The number of people having contact with COVID-19 patients and returning from epidemic hit countries has fallen to 20,600.
Though the outbreak has been brought under control, the Ministry of Health encouraged local residents to fully observe COVID-19 prevention and control measures, including wearing face masks, frequently washing hands with sanitizer and keeping a safe distance in public places.
