COVID-19: Another returnee from US brings national infection tally to 1,069
VOV.VN - A Vietnamese returnee from the US has been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, taking Vietnam’s tally of coronavirus cases to 1,069, the Ministry of Health reported on September 23.
The newly detected female patient, 18, who resides in Binh Duong province, entered Vietnam on flight VN0002 on September 20 and was immediately quarantined after entry into the country. Her test results at the Center for Disease Control of Hung Yen province and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology on September 21 and 22, both came back positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Currently, the patient is isolated to receive treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi’s Dong Anh’s district.
With the new infection, the nation’s total COVID-19 cases rose to 1,069, of which 691 are locally transmitted cases, and 378 cases are imported and placed into isolation immediately upon arrival.
The same day, an additional 11 COVID-19 patients were given the all-clear after testing negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, pushing the overall number of recovery cases to 991.
The total figure for cases linked to the coronavirus outbreak in central Da Nang city since the recurrence of the virus in late July stands at 551.
The fatality count remains at 35, mostly elderly people with serious underlying health illnesses.
More than 20,870 people are still under quarantined across the nation, with 355 at hospitals, and the remainder at concentrated quarantine facilities and at home.
Among the active cases in treatment, 25 have tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 once or at least twice.
Vietnam has gone 21 straight days clear of cases of local transmission. September 23 also marked the 56th day Ho Chi Minh City has detected no new cases in the community, and the 35th day for Hanoi.
