Vietnam rescues two Japanese tourists in critical condition at sea
VOV.VN - Vietnamese maritime rescue forces have swiftly evacuated two Japanese tourists in critical condition from a foreign cruise ship to shore for emergency medical treatment.
The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre Region III in Ho Chi Minh City on March 23 received an emergency alert from Panama-flagged cruise ship PACIFIC WORLD, reporting that a passenger had suffered a severe health condition while at sea.
The ship was traveling from Singapore to Taiwan when an 84-year-old Japanese male passenger developed severe respiratory failure, diagnosed with severe pneumonia. His condition deteriorated rapidly, requiring endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.
Immediately after receiving the information, authorities dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 272, along with an emergency medical team, to carry out the rescue operation.
At around 10:46 a.m. the same day, the captain of PACIFIC WORLD reported that another Japanese passenger, a 79-year-old woman, was experiencing breathing difficulties and also required urgent evacuation for medical care.
More than an hour later, SAR 272 approached the cruise ship, with rescue personnel and medical staff boarding the vessel, providing emergency care, and transferring both patients onto the rescue ship.
During the return journey to shore, the medical team continuously administered intensive care and closely monitored the patients’ conditions.
By 3:20 p.m., both patients were safely brought ashore at the Maritime Search and Rescue Centre Region III and handed over to relevant authorities for further specialised treatment.
