25 COVID-19 patients turn critical in Bac Ninh hotspot
VOV.VN - Of the 300 active COVID-19 cases in Bac Ninh, a coronavirus hotspot in northern Vietnam, 25 are now in a serious condition, with two relying on mechanical ventilation and one on dialysis, according to local doctors.
One of the severe cases, a 58-year-old patient with virus-like symptoms of coughing and a fever, was diagnosed with severe pneumonia due to respiratory failure caused by COVID-19.
Meanwhile, a 67-year-old patient suffered from severe pneumonia, diabetes, hypothyroidism, and adrenal insufficiency.
As of midday on May 18, Bac Ninh has confirmed 300 COVID-19 cases, including 42 new infections in quarantine areas.
The province has traced nearly 30,000 people in direct and indirect contact with COVID-19 patients. Of the 163,000 samples taken, 150,105 subsequently tested negative and the remainder are now waiting for their results.
Bac Ninh currently represents Vietnam’s second largest COVID-19 hotspot, with social distancing measures applied in its Bac Ninh city and in Que Vo district from 6 a.m. on May 18 until May 20.
As active cases surge, the province has boosted pandemic prevention and control efforts in industrial zones. It has also tightened prevention and control at medical facilities and pooled resources for a range of scenarios.
