Vietnam reports another coronavirus fatality, death toll rises to 26

VOV.VN - Another elderly coronavirus patient suffering from chronic kidney failure died in Da Nang late August 22, bringing the country’s death toll caused by the disease to 26.

The 93-year-old man, who lives in Thanh Khe district, was hospitalized at the geriatric department, Da Nang Hospital, on July 23. He was diagnosed with obstruction of the right leg artery alongside heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic renal failure, hypertension and dementia.

He tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on August and was then transferred to Da Nang’s Hoa Vang field hospital for treatment. He was diagnosed with septic shock and multi-organ failure late August 21 and passed away the following day.

This is the 26th fatality Vietnam has recorded since the outbreak started in the country, and Da Nang alone has registered 22 cases.

Most of the fatalities were elderly people who suffered from serious illnesses such as end-stage kidney cancer, severe pneumonia, diabetes and multi-organ failure.

The coronavirus outbreak in Da Nang, the largest in Vietnam so far, has gradually been brought under control. The number of registered infections has fallen to less than 10 over the past few days, even to zero on August 21-22 mornings. Late August 22 the Ministry of Health confirmed five more cases in Vietnam, all in Da Nang city.

The special working team from the Ministry of Health left Da Nang for Hanoi August 21 after having stayed there for three weeks to help the locality deal with the outbreak.
