Vietnam records 43rd COVID-19 death
VOV.VN - A 50-year-old local man has died of COVID-19 and several underlying illnesses, announced the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on May 24.
He was later confirmed to have been suffering from underlying illnesses, including liver cirrhosis due to years of excessive drinking.
The patient was first admitted to Hai Duong City General Hospital on April 18 after suffering from symptoms as a high fever with body chills, both yellow skin and eyes, abdominal distension, and digestive issues.
He was subsequently taken to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on April 25 where he tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on May 5.
The patient was then placed on a ventilation machine and given continuous dialysis treatment.
Despite doctors’ efforts, the patient passed away overnight on May 23 of COVID-19, alongside septic shock, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver cirrhosis, and multiple organ failure.
This is the 8th COVID-19 death recorded in Vietnam following the resurgence of the virus in late April 2021 and the 43rd case since last year.
