Vietnam records 219 further local COVID-19 cases, 157 recoveries
VOV.VN - The nation registered a total of 219 new domestic cases of COVID-19 across five localities following 87 more local cases being confirmed on the afternoon of June 4, according to the Ministry of Health.
The 219 cases recorded domestically include Bac Giang (141), Bac Ninh (47), Ho Chi Minh City (26), Hanoi (4), and Thai Binh (1), in which 212 new cases were detected in isolation or lockdown areas.
The majority of the new cases were detected in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh and are closely associated with outbreaks which have hit the provinces' industrial parks and other locked down areas.
The majority of the new cases found in Ho Chi Minh are linked with the Revival Ekklesia Mission, while those in other localities came into contact with infected patients.
June 4 also saw the country document five more imported cases in the southern provinces of Kien Giang and Tay Ninh.
Following the detection of the latest cases, Vietnam has so far confirmed 6,744 local infections, along with 1,543 imported ones.
In addition, 5,174 locally-transmitted cases have been recorded as part of the latest COVID-19 wave which hit the nation more than one month ago.
The same day saw the country record its 50th COVID-19 death, marking the fifth death since the country was hit by the disease in late April.
Notably, a further 157 coronavirus patients were released from hospital after making a full recovery from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 3,242.
In an effort to slow the spread of the virus, the local health sector in Bac Ninh province, one of the hardest-hit localities, is set to take samples as part of SARS-CoV-2 testing from all residents in Thuan Thanh district and Bac Ninh city.
The administration has moved to Bac Ninh enforce the strict management of all people and vehicles entering and leaving residential areas, especially with regards to labourers working at enterprises and industrial parks in the province. Bac Ninh has devised a plan amid the number of patients increasing to 3,000 cases.
Meanwhile, Tan Yen district of Bac Giang province has been provided with 11,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Currently, roughly 5,500 workers have been vaccinated, with the process expected to be completed on June 6.
The country was hit by a new COVID-19 wave more than five weeks ago, with more than 5,170 infections going on to be recorded in 37 out of 63 cities and provinces.
